Spring Cleaning

Slowly but surely, everything is coming back to life as spring paints a beautiful shade of blue in the sky. Trees are waking up, flowers are blooming and as we all come out of hibernation, we come to the realization that it’s time to take care of some much need spring cleaning!

The only downside to this is that many cleaning products on the market today are full of harsh chemicals that can wreak havoc on your health and the environment with their toxic fumes. So why not save yourself (and a few dollars) by making natural cleaning solutions at home. Here are a few for you to try:

All-Purpose Cleaner

  • 1 2/3 cup baking soda
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil-based liquid soap
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 2 tablespoons vinegar
  • Add essential oils for scent (optional)

Combine in a spray bottle. Shake well before use!

Porcelain Throne Cleaner (AKA the toiler)

  • 1/4 cup borax or baking soda
  • 1 cup vinegar

Mix in the toilet and let sit for 15 minutes (or longer, if necessary), scrub and flush!

Mirror Mirror on the Wall

  • 1/4 cup vinegar
  • 4 cups warm water

Combine in a spray bottle and use to clean glass or mirrors with a dry cloth or piece of newspaper.

Mold & Mildew Be Gone

  • 1/2 cup borax
  • 1/2 cup vinegar

Mix together to forma  paste. Scrub with a brush or sponge and rinse with water. For tough mold, let sit for an hour before rinsing with water.
