In light of Administrative Professionals week, we think it’s important to bring awareness to health and fitness in the workplace.
So many vital administrative professionals find themselves unable to achieve the recommended 30 minutes of moderate exercise five days a week. For those who struggle to find time to go to the gym, here are some tips to increase physical activity throughout the day:
Increase the productivity of your commute.
Instead of sitting in your car or on the bus, walk or bike to work. If this isn’t an option, park at the far end of the parking lot or get off the bus earlier than your typical stop and walk the rest of the way.
Standing is better than sitting and walking is better than standing.
Mix it up. Stand while on the phone or during lunch or coffee breaks. Instead of taking a coffee break, take a brisk walk in or around your office building. Get up and visit your coworkers’ desks and offices rather than calling or instant messaging them. Organize a lunchtime walking group or even, when it’s practical, conduct meetings or brainstorming sessions on an outdoor walking path.
Trade your office chair for a yoga ball.
Using firm yoga/fitness balls have been proven to relieve back pain, increase balance and tone core muscles. You can even work some exercise into your day by using your fitness ball for some wall squats throughout the day.
